The Trend that is Revolutionizing the AV industry-AV over IP

AV over IP is the Latest Trend in the Audiovisual Industry

The next big trend for the audio-visual industry is the move toward networking AV and the products and services that it will bring. The leading players of the industry are implementing this technology in a wide variety of areas, like IT management, security systems, corporate communications, entertainment, and more!

Because of its versatility, it is rapidly becoming an industry standard in both commercial and residential environments. This market’s forecast of growth is an amazing CAGR of 60% from 2019 to 2025.

However, this forecast is not a surprise for Pro AV experts which have seen the advancement of network compression technologies growing along with video resolutions. In this article, you will learn more about this trend and its future in the industry.

Concept Definition

The term AV over IP simply refers to a technology that uses standard network equipment to transmit/switch video and audio signals. Its primary function is to transmit audio and video data over a standard network, such as LAN, WAN, or the Internet.

The AV over IP Infrastructure in Contrast to Traditional AV

Traditional AV uses a “physical cable” for transmission. It transmits signals through cables and matrix switchers. This traditional AV architecture had three basic elements:

-The transmitter (TX)

-The receiver (RX)

– The Matrix Switcher

On the other hand, AV over IP connects through an IP switcher using Cat5e or Cat6, and it transmits over an Ethernet, WAN, LAN, or Wi-Fi. The architecture changes the traditional basic elements. Simply put, an encoder replaces the traditional A/V transmitter (Tx), and a decoder replaces the receiver (Rx). Instead of a matrix switcher, we use an Ethernet IP switcher.

AV over IP is a Better Solution than Traditional AV

Traditional AV had a huge emphasis on the matrix switcher to transmit signals. This required installing transmitters and receivers at every device in the room. The problem is that most matrix switchers have a fixed amount of ports.

With AV-over-IP, encoders are installed at the sources, such as consoles or Blu-ray players, and decoders are installed at all destinations, such as TVs and projectors. Due to IP switcher ports being compatible with many IP switches, the number of endpoint devices that can be connected to the matrix switcher is no longer a limitation. The result is that an application is no longer restricted to finite inputs and outputs. It becomes a scalable system.

AV over IP is the Future

In Short, the AV over IP trend is booming in the Pro AV industry. With time, analog AV facilities are gradually being replaced with IP-based infrastructures. It is ideal for systems that require high bandwidth, long-distance, and even just for future expansion. You will see it being implemented everywhere, from malls to stadiums and from small organizations to universities!

Any business or company that wants to leverage audio and video as useful assets in order to enhance team collaboration and creativity must have a scalable, cost-effective solution without distance limitations.
